Protect Our Children and Parental Rights

Recent California legislation has raised serious concerns about parental authority, medical oversight for minors, and taxpayer-funded programs related to gender ideology. This page summarizes key excerpts from the California Family Council report and outlines a legislative plan to restore parental rights and protect children.

Parents.

Truth.

Protection.

CA Protects Its Ideology Over Minors

California is a sanctuary for transgender-identified individuals, meaning the state makes it easy, even as a minor, to come for cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and sex reassignment surgeries. In order to protect their sanctuary status, SB 497, authored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), was signed to shield California medical providers from lawsuits and investigations by other states, which have laws protecting minors from harmful transitioning drugs and surgeries.

SB 497 specifically prohibits California agencies, officials, and healthcare providers from sharing any information from the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES). CURES is a tool designed to track prescriptions and prevent abuse. Under this new law, information about drugs like testosterone and puberty blockers can no longer be shared with out-of-state authorities investigating transgender drugs and surgeries, also called “gender-affirming care.”

This change prevents law enforcement and medical boards from tracking dangerous or excessive prescriptions even when given to minors.

AB 1487 Taxpayer-Funded Gender Indoctrination

With AB 1487, authored by Assemblywoman Dawn Addis (D-San Luis Obispo), citizens are forced to give 15 million in taxpaying dollars to the Two-Spirit, Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, and Intersex (2TGI) Wellness Equity Fund that gives grants to non-profit organizations promoting the spread of LGBTQ ideology and providing medical, educational, and counseling services.

This existing fund already finances “wellness” activities like painting classes, hormone treatments, and sex reassignment surgeries for minors with little oversight. AB 1487 expands those services to include funding for resettlement programs for transgender immigrants, and youth diversion projects and workforce training for transgender-identifying individuals.

AB 1487 targets young and vulnerable populations, especially in rural and tribal communities, using taxpayer money to push ideological programs that confuse, not heal, children. Parents and doctors who believe in biological truth are cut out entirely.

A State Against Its Own Children

These bills together advance a dangerous lie that people can change their biological sex.

Though research shows that those who undergo medical transition are far more likely to suffer from depression, regret, and suicidal thoughts (NIH study). Testimonies from detransitioners like Chloe Cole and from former LGBTQ-identified individuals in the Changed Movement all echo the same tragic truth: the promised healing and happiness LGBTQ ideology was supposed to bring only left scars—physical, emotional, and spiritual.

California’s majority party has made it its mission to erase the truth about gender and sexuality, replacing it with an ideology that leaves children confused, broken, and irreversibly harmed.

How Will I Fight To Protect Our Children and Parental Rights?

The first thing that must happen: California voters unite to elect a Republican Governor and break the Democrat veto-proof supermajorities in the State Legislature.

There are currently 60 Democrat and 20 Republican members of the State Assembly. To break the supermajority we need to increase the number of Republicans to at least 27. In the State Senate the split is the same: 30 Democrats and 10 Republicans. We need to elect at least 14 Republican Senators. Numerically it’s less challenging, but as State Senators serve 4 instead of 2 year terms, only half will be running for reelection this year.

Breaking the supermajorities will allow us to stop any new legislation like SB 497 and AB1487 from passing. It will prevent more harmful legislation directed at children and a greater loss of Parental rights being driven by the powerful, radical LGTBQ and 2TGI elements in the Democrat Party.

I will work to promote a much greater awareness of the insanity of some of the recent legislation, including the journeys of brave young people like Chloe Cole. As this happens, it will provide the momentum for me to work with other Republicans and the more reasonable Democrats in the State Assembly to pass legislation that:

1. Develops a methodology to separately diagnose and treat the relatedly rare cases of gender dysphoria from the range of normal rebellion and identity challenges all children face as they begin to mature,

2. Removes all ideologically-driven activism from public school classrooms and libraries.

3. Ends all irreversible damage to the bodies of children.

4. Ends all decision-making regarding the mental and physical health of children without the express, advance written permission of their parents or legal guardians.

Restoring Parental Authority

Parents must remain the primary decision-makers in the lives of their children. Public policy should protect minors, uphold biological reality, and ensure that irreversible medical decisions are never made without full parental knowledge and consent.

We owe it to the next generation to safeguard both truth and parental responsibility.

Neighborhood Safety

Violent crime has risen across AD51 cities while the national rate has remained stable. Sacramento policies are making it harder for local governments to protect single-family neighborhoods and enforce the law effectively. We must restore accountability, support law enforcement, and protect the quality of life in our communities.

Education Reform

California ranks near the bottom in national proficiency scores despite ranking near the top in income and taxes. Our children deserve classrooms focused on academics — not activism. We must restore curriculum standards, mandate accountability, and prioritize math, science, and literacy.

Homelessness

California has one of the highest per capita homeless populations in the nation. Billions have been spent with little measurable success. Compassion without accountability has failed. We must fund treatment, job training, and housing — with strict performance requirements.

Affordability

Housing, gas, utilities, and food costs continue to rise. Government-induced regulations and taxation have made California one of the least affordable states in the nation. We must reduce regulatory burdens, control spending, and lower the tax load on working families.

Jobs & Opportunity

California ranks last in U-Haul migration trends as companies relocate to business-friendly states. As employers leave, the tax burden grows on those who remain. We must reverse hostile regulatory policies and create an environment that attracts investment and job growth.

Women’s Rights

Biological males competing in women’s sports undermines decades of progress toward fairness and equal opportunity. Women deserve privacy, safety, and competitive integrity. We must restore protections in athletics, scholarships, and women-only spaces.
